About
With over 60 years of history, The Crucible continues to be the University of Northern Colorado's exemplary showcase for student art and writing. The Crucible, also known as United Student Literary Voices (USLV), selects student work to publish in a bi-annual magazine featuring poetry, fiction and non-fiction prose, photography, and art. In the fall, The Crucible publishes a special themed edition and in the spring, the main edition is published, featuring a wide variety of artwork and writing.
The Crucible borrows its name from UNC’s first student magazine, which served what was then the Colorado State Normal School from 1892 to 1920. We chose the name to honor both UNC’s heritage as a teachers’ college and its students of today and tomorrow. Like its counterpart in chemistry, The Crucible purifies its contents; it challenges its contributors to test themselves and to strive for flawlessness in their future creative ventures.
Getting Involved
All undergraduate and graduate students at UNC are welcome to join the staff of The Crucible. Meetings are held once a week during the school year. The Crucible staff review submissions each week and critically discuss and evaluate the merits of each piece considered for publication. Members will learn how to hone their editorial eye, so no experience is necessary.

Where to find copies
The Crucible is free to the general public, and print copies are located in the English department office (Ross 1284). While older editions might not be available, the current edition is always in stock. If there are no editions, find someone to yell at Hannah.
